All efforts of the economic development institutions have one objective: the revitalisation of the municipal and regional economy and raising the profile of the area as a whole.
In this, a differentiation is made between the different economic development bodies. The municipal and sub-regional companies are responsible for encouraging the location of companies and marketing of sites in particular, as well as developing the area and raising its profile. They also provide support in competition applications in order to obtain funding and subsidies. The municipal and sub-regional economic development bodies see themselves as an interface between economic and municipal interests.

The chambers of industry and commerce/crafts are independent public bodies that represent the interests of their members towards local administrations, local government, political bodies and the public. The sovereign tasks assigned to the chambers of crafts by the state include representing the interests of the crafts and skilled trades and the promotion of the trades.
