Stronger together for the region

The Metropole Ruhr has been working with the Wirtschaftsförderung metropoleruhr GmbH (wmr) to form a regional economic development agency since 1 January 2007. The wmr assumes the following role, with the agreement of all 53 towns and cities in the region:

- National and international promotion of the Metropole Ruhr region
- Initiating and accompanying regional networks and centres of expertise
- Acquisitions and advising companies in all matters relating to finding a suitable site
- Compiling relevant economic information about the region
- Providing networks, contacts and contact partners on-site
- Coordinating and supporting municipalities by providing expert information
on how to apply for funds

As a service company, the wmr together with local economic development bodies is the central service provider and contact partner for all economic issues relating to the Metropole Ruhr. The consultation team offers regional know-how, effective consultation tools, regionally adapted processes and contact with all networks operating in the region.

The wmr offers a regional information and communications platform for the relevant partners in the various cities and districts in the region’s fields of expertise – energy, logistics, chemistry and health care. It also covers networking activities in the cross-sectional technologies – nano technology, MST and new materials and information and communications technology.

The regional economic development agency provides data and facts, develops tailor-made concepts for targeted site marketing and cooperates with companies so as to further optimise the conditions of the region’s expertise. Networks and clusters are also expanded through collaboration with companies and institutions operating in science and research. The wmr initiates projects and supports, moderates and accompanies regional processes concerning site development.

As a member of the Regionalverband Ruhr association(RVR), the Wirtschaftsförderung metropoleruhr GmbH economic development agency combines shared interests and works with the cities to develop profiles highlighting the economic potential of the region.
